Financial Aid & Scholarships
All families are encouraged to review the criteria and apply for scholarships. Awards are based on meeting the requirements and, in some cases, need.
Each family must apply every year in order to be considered for financial aid. Returning families who have significantly different economic circumstances this year may receive more assistance than they received last year.
Guerin Prep Financial Aid Timeline, Procedures and Options
1) Financial aid applications are ONLY available online at www.factstuitionaid.com. All applications are due by February 1, 2019. After completing the online application you will need to mail or fax all the supporting documentation.
2) Mail the FACTS Grant and Aid Assessment Form and all requested documentation (such as 1040s and W-2s -- please refer to application for details) and your check for the processing fee directly to FACTS offices at the address provided on the application. Please contact FACTS Grant & Aid Assessment with any questions 866-315-9262 or email email@example.com.
3) Complete and return "Financial Aid/Scholarships Information Sheet," to the Guerin Prep High School business office.
Also complete separate applications for all scholarships and return them to the Guerin Prep High School business office. If you have any questions, please call the Guerin Prep Business Office at 708-437-4710.
Guerin Prep will mail announcements of financial aid awards. Any additional financial aid awarded will depend on the circumstances of the request and the availability of funds.

GUERIN PREP SCHOLARSHIPS
PRESIDENT SCHOLARSHIP FOR THE CLASS OF 2023
Guerin Prep awards $1,500 to the ten students who score the highest on the December Entrance Exam. The President scholarship is renewable every year over the course of your student's high school career. These students will also be considered for admission to the Nolan Scholars Program. It is required that the student maintains a 3.6 GPA.
PRINCIPAL SCHOLARSHIP FOR THE CLASS OF 2023
Guerin Prep awards $1,000 to the next ten students who score the highest on the December Entrance Exam. The Principal scholarship is renewable every year over the course of your student's high school career. These students will also be considered for admission to the Nolan Scholars Program. NOLAN SCHOLARS PROGRAM SCHOLARSHIP FOR THE CLASS OF 2023
The Nolan scholarship awards $2,000 to those students who are accepted as Nolan Scholars. This scholarship is renewable every year over the course of your student's high school career. Students are invited to apply to the Nolan Scholars program once they are accepted into Guerin Prep, based on entrance test scores, academic record and recommendations. A special application must be completed and an interview may be scheduled.
The Alumni Legacy Scholarship has been established by the Alumni Council to honor the alumni of Holy Cross, Mother Guerin and Guerin Prep High School by supporting the education of their children through an annual tuition scholarship. For the 2019-2020 school year, we will award two (2) scholarships in the amount of $1,000 each. A separate application must be completed and submitted and may be downloaded from this web site.
CZESLAW MICHALCZUK POLISH HERITAGE SCHOLARSHIP*
This scholarship has been established in honor of the Czeslaw Michalczuk, the father of a Mother Theodore Guerin High School alumna, to help Polish families who make the financial sacrifice to provide their daughters with a Guerin Prep Education. It provides one $1,200 scholarship to a freshman or sophomore girl in good academic standing and with a good disciplinary record who is of Polish ancestry (the student, one parent or one grandparent was born in Poland) and who has financial need. A separate application must be completed and submitted and may be downloaded from this web site. A typewritten essay is required.
This award, established in honor of Charles and Margaret Fletcher, parents of four Holy Cross graduates, for their sacrifice and dedication to high-quality education, provides a junior boy with a $1,500 scholarship to be applied to his senior year at Guerin Prep. This scholarship is intended to inspire the development of communication skills in Guerin graduates. Leaders are often defined by their ability to successfully communicate their ideas. Regardless of the path you choose after leaving Guerin Prep, you will find it very important for you to be able to communicate in an effective manner. GEORGE MCMAHON SCHOLARSHIP*
The George McMahon Scholarship has been established in memory of George McMahon, a dedicated public servant and devoted father of both Mother Theodore Guerin and Holy Cross High School alumni. This scholarship honors his life-long commitment as a Chicago police officer, ending his career as the Chief of detectives, and seeks to assist children of police or other public safety officials who are in financial need. Open to incoming freshmen, sophomores and juniors in good academic standing, applicants must also submit an essay on what receiving the scholarship would mean to them. Guerin Prep will offer a $1,000 tuition credit to a legacy student whose parent is an alumna/us of Mother Guerin or Holy Cross and a $500 tuition credit to a legacy student whose grandparent, aunt, uncle or sibling is an alumna/us of Guerin Prep, Mother Guerin or Holy Cross. One legacy incentive may be applied per student. A separate application must be completed and submitted and may be downloaded from this web site.
HOMETOWN HERO SCHOLARSHIP*
The Hometown Hero Scholarship is established by Guerin College Prep High School to recognize the many families of our students who are employees of local municipalities. Five $500 tuition scholarships awarded to students who have one parent as an active member of any local municipality's police or fire department. Recipients are determined based on an essay submission and financial need. A separate application must be completed and submitted and may be downloaded from this web site.
LAURA GATTO SYRACUSE MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP*
The Gatto family believes that one should give
back to their community, so that other young people can benefit from the
opportunity to receive a Catholic education.At this time, the Laura Gatto Syracuse Memorial Scholarship provides a $1,000
scholarship, to a St. Francis Borgia 8th grader, which will be distributed
as follows: $500 scholarship for one female student and $500 scholarship for

LYNN M. SCHOENROCK '76 SCHOLARSHIP*
The Lynn M. Schoenrock ’76 Memorial Scholarship been established by Holy Cross Alumni, John A. Machonga ’75 to honor the memory of Lynn M. Schoenrock ’76. Lynn and John were good and true friends who loved each other. Lynn loved life and sought to give back to her community, but was lost to us before she could fulfill her dreams. One dream was to return to teach at Guerin and to help start the students on the road to their dreams. It is hoped that this Scholarship will preserve Lynn's memory and allow her to help others achieve their dreams. At this time, the scholarship provides a junior student with a $1,000 scholarship to be applied to their senior year at Guerin Prep. SATURNINO AND ANA M. ZURITA SCHOLARSHIP*
The Saturnino and Ana M. Zurita Latino Heritage Scholarship has been established in honor of the Zurita Family, long-time supporters of Guerin College Prep and its foundation schools. The Zurita Family has believed in a Catholic education for many decades since it taught their children and grandchildren the importance of becoming a well-educated and well-rounded Latino in our society. Furthermore, the Zurita Family believes that one should give back to their community so that other Latino families may also benefit. At this time, the scholarship provides $1,200.00 which will be distributed as follows: $600.00 scholarship for one male Latino student and $600.00 scholarship for one female Latina student. SISTER GERTRUDE SMITH SCHOLARSHIP*
This fund, established in the name of Sister Gertrude Smith, SP, enables Guerin Prep to offer awards of $1,000 each to student who demonstrate the following: successful completion of one or more years of schooling at Guerin Prep with an average of 2.5 or better, active participation in extracurricular activities, evidence of good citizenship in and out of school and financial need. ST. MOTHER THEODORE GUERIN FEAST DAY SLOWIK GIANNINI GRANT
This grant was created by Claudia '73, Jerry, and Victoria Giannini '11 in loving remembrance of William F. and Frances C. Slowik who supported Catholic school education and, our sponsors, the Sisters of Providence. On St. Mother Theodore Feast Day two $500 grants for tuition will be awarded through a raffle at the conclusion of mass. All current students are entered in the raffle.

OUTSIDE SOURCES FOR SCHOLARSHIPS
HOLY CROSS HIGH SCHOOL ALUMNI EDUCATION ENDOWMENT FUND
The Holy Cross High School Alumni Education Endowment Fund was created to provide financial aid to students in need at Holy Cross High School. These funds were transferred to Guerin College Preparatory High School from Holy Cross and are increased by generous donors. The fund will provide several financial aid awards to male students who exhibit financial need and are in good standing at Guerin Prep.
ST. MOTHER THEODORE GUERIN LEGACY FUND
The St. Mother Theodore Guerin Legacy Fund was created to honor and commemorate the canonization of Saint Mother Theodore Guerin, for whom our school is named. It provides financial aid to students enrolled at Guerin Prep.
GUERIN TUITION INSURANCE
The tuition obligation of a current student enrolled at Guerin will be assumed by the high school at the loss by death of the designated parent(s) or the designated legal guardian(s) responsible for tuition payments. A $50 fee is charged to cover parents or guardians. Only those parents or guardians designated as responsible for paying tuition on the registration form are eligible. The benefit takes effect on the date the next tuition payment is due for the student following the death of the parent/guardian responsible for the tuition payment.
STUDENT WORK PROGRAM
The school employs a limited number of students to assist in various capacities. Registered students may apply at the business office. A waiting list is maintained after all positions have initially been filled. Funds earned through the Student Work Program are applied to the tuition of the student.
TUITION TAX CREDIT
Families can also apply for a state income tax credit of up to $500 per family through filing of an annual income tax return.

INVEST IN KIDS ACT
BIG SHOULDERS FUND
Illinois enacted the Invest In Kids Scholarship Tax Credit Program in 2017. This program offers a 75 percent income tax credit to individuals and businesses that contribute to qualified Scholarship Granting Organizations (SGOs). The SGOs then provide scholarships for students whose families meet the income requirements to attend qualified, non-public schools in Illinois. DANIEL MURPHY SCHOLARSHIP
The Daniel Murphy Scholarship Foundation encourages eighth graders to apply for four-year, private college preparatory high school scholarships. In early September applications are mailed to more than 800 public and private schools. All eighth graders interested in the scholarship should contact their principals, counselors and teachers to request an application. www.dmsf.org.
HFS Chicago Scholars provides financial assistance and mentoring to economically disadvantaged Chicago inner-city high school students who show academic and leadership promise to achieve their educational goals.
HighSight awards partial four-year scholarships for students to attend private high schools. To qualify you must currently be in eighth grade and live in Chicago. HighSight also provides academic and social support to enable its students to succeed at the high school of their choice. HighSight scholars are expected to demonstrate a commitment to their education and show a motivation to succeed. Qualifying families must exhibit financial need. HORIZONS FOR YOUTH
Since its founding in 1990, Horizons for Youth has been enabling children from low-resource areas of Chicago to become the first in their families to graduate from college. Through scholarships, a summer academic program, one-on-one mentoring, enrichment outings, tutoring, counseling, and high school and college preparation services, students gain access to the resources they need to graduate high school, continue on to college, and successfully enter the workforce. horizons-for-youth.org
LINK UNLIMITED SCHOLARSHIP
LINK Unlimited awards partial four-year scholarships up to $5,000 to African American students who attend private high schools. To qualify, you must currently be in eighth grade, maintain a minimum GPA of 2.7 and demonstrate financial need. Link Unlimited provides academic enrichment, college readiness skills and student leadership skills while focusing on personal growth, human relations, kindness, charity and moral and ethical values. All eighth graders interested in this scholarship should contact LINK Unlimited at 312.225.5465.
